Welcome to the Core.
Hi, my name is M, I'm the current Quantum Architect & Code Cutter for Cybercore.
I'm an almost 50-year-old Dungeon Master and GM. I've been doing this for a long time (That dosn't mean I'm good, it just means I'm old). I Started DM'ing in Primary School back in 1981.
I've never charged for my games, though this one time, one of my players gave me $70 to run Dragon Mountain as the next game. So, off we went to The Mountain.
That player went off and had a baby, and his shift work changed. Suffice to say, after missing so many sessions, it was clear he wasn't coming back. Then it happened, his Paladin got stuck in the entrance trap with an enormous stone block suspended 1 foot above him in a dropped floor recess, he couldn't get out. Well, there was a centered lever to lift the block—the usual dilemma: do you pull it up or down? One raises the block; the other releases it. One of the players in the party said, "I pull the lever up!" Then, after a pause, "Then I pull it down! Then up again, and down again a few more times for good measure..."
Oh, we laughed and laughed...
Suffice to to say three years later, we finished Dragon Mountain.
Cybercore is not like that...
Cybercore is Mission based and Follows the Rule of threes.
Three Ops to a Mission (Get In, Do it, Get Out), Three Missions to an Tier. Three Tiers to an Arc and Three Arcs to a Campaign.
Let's talk about leveling in Cybercore: One Mission = One Level. Ten Missions, you hit Level 10, heroically ending your way out of the game. Maybe.
There's a catch; this is Cybercore—there's always a catch.
That means you will likely play three characters in a Campaign, one for each story Arc, which covers the Three Tiers of play. These arcs might be contiguous in time, separated by hundreds, if not thousands of years, or even run simultaneously. Some stories you may even get to play backwards through time. Welcome to the Core.
A Mission can (and should) be completed in a single session or possibly (if not when) bad things start to happen, like running out of air, your drop ship leaving your ass planet's side... much sooner.
This keeps the game moving forward (or ends it rather quickly), and that's okay because it's built into the system (more on that later).
It also means that players can drop in and out of missions "West marches" style, a boon in our rapidly changing lives.
So What is Cybercore? Lets see if we can narrow it down a little.
Intergalactic Heros places you in the boots of the galaxy's most courageous, where your journey is one of heroism, sacrifice, and valor.
Actually thats the guy standing in front of you in the space-mart checkout line. You, Your'e an asshole.
You are a corporate shiv, who's signed up with his chosen corp to get off the hell-hole of a rust bucket junk planet you were stuck ground-side on.
Here, every operation is a test of your mettle. Every decision could mean life or death for billions, but more likely just you.
As you traverse the stars, your actions write the annals of galactic history... wait no thats the guy in frount of you, what the hell is taking this checkout line so long...
Will you rise as a beacon of hope or fall as a forgotten pleb in the vast expanse? Probably the later... should be a fun ride though.
-- Read the fine print berk!
Unlicensed Objectives yanks your screaming into the real game, right and wrong, enemy and ally, are all really just theoretical concepts right...
Every Mission is a dive into the unknown, a chance to uncover secrets that were meant to stay hidden, Save entire colonies or hunt though a YARD (Yet Another Wrecked Derelict). While you are doing that, your Techglomerate has given you an agenda, a little Side Hustle. Try not to backstab your friends, at least not on the first mission, or at least not on the first mission and in public, witnesses are problematic.
Unlicensed Objectives : Your corp may give you a "Private Op" on any mission.
This Unlicensed Objectives is to be kept on the downlow. It won't directly oppose your main mission, as that would be counterproductive. Let's call it "Mission Adjacent."
If you complete your Side Hustle, there are perks! Maybe another level, extra training, Techglomerate Talents even gear and credits.
Here's the catch: Again, this is Cybercore—there's always a catch.
Your Private Operations might be slightly unaligned with some of your teammates' Private Operations. Maybe. I mean, what are the odds of that happening, right?
Oh, one more thing. You may have noticed the Rule of Threes:
3 Missions to a Tier, 3 Tiers to an Arc — 9 Levels.
Yeah, for those of you counting on your fingers at home thats 9 Levels to a Campaign.
There are 10 levels in Cybercore... just saying
You don’t earn Level 10.
You steal it — from the blood-soaked bodies of your teammates, in the smoking ruins of a successful Unlicensed Objective.
You're not just any recruit; You are an Echo Collector. Though all players begin as humans in the ranks of the uninitiated, the path to greatness knows no bounds. Ascend through the ranks, from a nameless wanderer to a legend (or legendary asshole).
As you Journey though the Cybercore, you will Collect Tags, Echos, that offer a unique narrative experience that echo's through time.
As your character's deeds, choices, and sacrifices shape the future. Earn Origin Tags to unlock new races, A Credit Tag means your next characters's richer, An Equipment Blueprint Tag means you next Character might start with a new Item.
You can spend these Tags as your like, creating a lineage of heroes whose legacies intertwine across generations.
Wait whats the catch? : Now you are getting it...
The tags you collect with your character, stay with that character and die with that character unless...
So don't get spaced like a pleb, or you will lose ya tags.
Welcome to Cybercore. Your legacy starts now...
