Free Traders

You are a freelance trader, often working for various organizations or causes running suspect trade missions. Perhaps you joined a privateer crew after serving in the military, or you were introduced to the life of a trader through a mentor or other experienced Privateer.

You have a passing familiarity with privateering, a form of piracy that is sanctioned in some sectors by a government or authority. You may have been a crew member on a privateer ship or have family members who are involved in privateering. As a result, you have a knack for navigating and operating a privateer vessel and know your way around deep space hauling and the negotiating table.

Boosted Skill Options:

Choose one of the following skill boons.

  • Piloting - Piloting (Air/Space)
  • Intel - Marketeering

You also have strong links with the Federation of Free Traders and several FOFT Syndicate contacts.

Legacy Item

Privateer's Sextant

A legendary artifact plundered from a long-lost privateer ship. The Privateer's Sextant enhances your ability to locate hidden treasures and valuable cargo during your illicit missions. It also grants you the charisma to negotiate favorable terms with black-market contacts.

Knacks and Quirks

Knacks

Ship Master

A privateer vessel is a compromise between speed, firepower, and the ability to disappear. You know every system on your ship; not from a manual, but from the three AM alarms when something failed and you were the only one awake.

Boarding Expert

The FOFT freighter's airlock had a nine-second cycling time. Thirteen seconds of standing in a breach corridor where anyone with a weapon and half a brain could end you. You learned to read the sound of pressure equalization. Boarding is listening. Everything after that is commitment.

The Outer Veil doesn't have proper nav-beacon coverage. You navigate by stellar drift charts, gravitational anomaly maps that are six months out of date, and dead reckoning that makes professional navigators develop eye tics.

Smuggler's Instinct

CORSEC inspectors check cargo manifests and scan hold contents. They do not check the gap between the inner hull and the thermal insulation where you've bolted six custom containers that don't show up on the ship's schematics. Concealment is about unconvincing locations.
